2022 Qatar World Cup, 122 Degree Summers, and Robotic Clouds

While I do watch some football from time to time, I've never really been a HUGE fan of the sport. However, fan or not everyone should know by now that the 2022 World Cup will take place in Qatar.

For those of you who don't know, Qatar is pretty much smack dab in the center of the Middle East and has summer temperatures that can climb up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. With nearly 90,000 people crammed into a stadium open to direct sunlight, temperatures like that are sure to melt the skin off of bones.

Good decision FIFA,  great way to kill off your fans. You don't need them anyway.

BUT WAIT, we have science and scientists at Qatar University are currently developing a solution to the sweltering heat dilemma. That solution is...wait for it....

...

ROBOTIC CLOUDS. WHAT?!

These bad boys are made from a crazy carbon fiber material, injected with helium gas to make it float, and are remotely controlled. Those round spots you see in the image are large propellers that allow the robotic cloud to hover like a helicopter. They are also programmed to automatically follow the sun's path in the sky to optimize it's shielding capabilities.

They are estimated to cost around $500,000 US.
But, pfft. That's no biggie. It's the World Cup. Spend a billion!

Take that mother nature.

I read something about robotic clouds before. I was wondering whether or not they'd be good-looking on a TV / actually necessary at all... It's really, IDK, a strange concept.
I suppose if it's for a desert arena though, then that's acceptable. :P

Is this one of those things that sounds awesome but will never get past the planning stages, like robot butlers?

I can't wait for the middle east oil countries to run out of money. seriously theyre just waving their liquid-money-soaked dicks around showing off now.

Oh man I love 122 degree weather. Those remote clouds look ridiculous, I want one for my house because I hate the heat.

So awesome.

Qatar really isn't that bad though. Hot, sure, but f you stay out of the sun its just fine.

i'm sure they'll keep the fans in the shade to prevent incidents, but it really is an odd choice of location

Russia getting the 2018 World Cup was a surprise but is understandable they do, after all, have a big history in the game but Qatar have nothing. We can looking forward to half empty stadiums with a Qatar with 11 Brazilian born players.

From a technical point of view it should be a very impressive World Cup but it doesn't change the fact that Qutar getting it is a disgrace.

It's crazy really they could have had the world cup here in england and spent the money they saved on fighting world hunger or something. 500000 dollars for a cloud?! we have them to spare here!

Or they could just build roofs over the stands to shade spectators

^lmao thats most definitely true.

That is really ambitious, but I'm sure they have that oil money to build a dozen of those.

That's Quatar for you...they seem to be up there with Japan for crazy tech inventions.

I would be so scared that it would simply crash that I would not want to attend.
